From the Worshipful Master Roscoe Love on reopening the lodge after the Covid-19 pandemic:
My hope is that each of you and your families are in good health. This year we have faced some unique challenges, and I have deeply missed our time together at Brandon Lodge.
First, I would like to congratulate R∴W∴ Jack Hampton for an excellent year as our District Deputy Grand Master. His knowledge and abilities have raised the bar for the 20th District. I also want to congratulate R∴H∴ David Wenzel for his appointment as the new District Instructor for the 20th District. A better selection could not have been made, and I pledge our support for him.
As the Governor of Florida has begun to re-open the State, the incoming Grand Master of Florida, M∴W∴ Thomas Turlington, has authorized the re-opening of Lodges in our jurisdiction beginning on June 1st. He has published some guidelines for re-opening, and our Lodge will adhere to those guidelines. He is allowing the individual Lodges to evaluate their own situation and make their own decision for their best re-opening plan.
After thoroughly reviewing all the requirements and with your health and safety my first concern, I have decided to partially open our Lodge in Phases beginning June 1st. I will initially open our Lodge for Catechism, Degree Practice, and Mentoring Classes. I will also allow scheduled work to be performed. There is much to prepare before the Lodge can be fully opened.
If all goes well and our current health situation continues to improve, I am setting a target date of June 25th for our first meeting. The meeting will be a regular Stated Communication with a light agenda. There will be no meal provided, and the dining room will remain closed. I have listed an outline of the process for you to safely attend the Lodge below.
Guidelines for Entering the Lodge
- There will be a hand-sanitizing station set up at the Tyler’s desk as requested by the Grand Master. “All” who enter the building will go directly to the Tyler’s desk and sanitize your hands, sign in, and proceed to the Lodge room where you will be seated spaced apart.
- If you choose to wear a mask and/or gloves you may do so. None will be provided. I prefer that you do not wear gloves, and instead sanitize your hands frequently. However, you may wear them if you choose. All gloves must go with you when you leave and not be disposed of in the lodge or lodge parking lot.
- In accordance with CDC guidelines, if you are not feeling well or have a temperature over 99.5, please do not attend lodge.
Brothers, this will be our trial run. I trust that everyone will adhere to the guidelines, and I am hopeful that the health situation will continue to improve. Brothers, please carefully evaluate your own health when making the decision to return to Lodge. Our primary goal is for everyone to stay healthy, while still enjoying the fraternity we cherish so much. After further evaluation, I will make the decision to fully open the Lodge to normal operations in July.
Please continue to check our website with upcoming calendar dates, our Facebook page, and emails for updated information. If you are not receiving our communications, please contact R∴W∴ Jack Hampton, our Secretary, to update your contact information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Brothers, your health and safety are the guiding influence in all my decisions concerning this matter. I look forward to seeing you soon.
