How To Become a Freemason

A By joining Freemasonry, you’ll be committing to yourself and your Brother Masons to be the best man you can be. And by taking the obligations of this ancient Fraternity, you will be joining millions of Freemasons across the globe who are also committed to helping each other develop their potential and improve the quality of life for themselves, their families, and their communities.

By joining, you will become the latest in a long line of men from all walks of life – world leaders and everyday men – who have found inspiration in Freemasonry and who strive to live by the values of honor, integrity, equality, and brotherhood.

When you become a Mason, you join a lodge, which can be thought of as the local chapter or club of the larger organization, the Grand Lodge. The name goes back hundreds of years, to when all Masons were taught, “A Lodge is a place where members assemble and work.” That idea still holds true today, and we discuss joining “the Lodge.”

Approach a Freemason you know

If you know a Freemason, approach him and inform him of your desire to join. After discussing your intentions, he would probably become your ‘nominator’ and make arrangements for you to become a member of his Lodge (Masonic meeting group).

Petition our Lodge

There are several things you will need to know in order to Petition our Lodge for initiation successfully. First, if you don’t currently know a Mason, simply visit our Lodge any Thursday between the hours of 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Let us know if you’re interested in learning more about the fraternity! Second, there are a few qualifications required of you:

  • You must be a male, at least 18 years of age.
  • You must believe in a Deity.
  • You must be of good moral character.
  • Lived in the area for six months.
  • Lived in the State for 12 months.
  • Never been convicted of a felony.

During your initial visit, you will be given a tour of our Lodge and the opportunity to ask questions or voice any concerns.

Upon completion of your Petition, it MUST be signed by two Brothers from Brandon Lodge. When your signed Petition is presented to our Secretary, the following fees and additional forms are required:

  • A form agreeing to a full criminal background check.
  • A non-refundable fee for background check.
  • A refundable initiation fee for your Entered Apprentice Degree.

Cash, Check, or Money Order is acceptable for payment.

Once a full criminal background check is returned to our satisfaction, your Petition will be presented to the Craft and voted on at our next Stated Communication. If the Craft accepts your Petition, an Investigation Committee will contact you personally to schedule an interview and continue your progress.
